crate is an AI sampler for iPhone and iPad. You type a vibe and the pads fill with sounds from the library that ships inside the app. This page explains what leaves your device and what doesn't.

What we send

The first time you ask crate for something, it asks whether its AI may send your request off the device. If you tap Allow, the text you type or say, plus a little context about the current beat (style, tempo, key, sound names, which pads are loaded), goes to crate's server. The server passes it to OpenAI and TypeSafe, which plan and arrange the beat, and sends the result back to the app. If you tap Not now, crate's AI stays on your device and nothing you type or say is sent. You can change this any time in the app under Projects (AI help).

What stays on your device

crate only uses the microphone while you record a sample or pull a pad down to talk, and asks for permission first. Speech is turned into text on your device; the audio is never sent anywhere.

What we don't do

Crash reports and TestFlight

If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iOS settings, Apple may share crash reports with us. If you test crate through TestFlight, Apple may also share any feedback or screenshots you choose to send; Apple's terms cover that data.

Children

crate isn't directed at children under 13.
